Oliver Lorz was born in Kassel in 1968. He studied economics at the University of Konstanz and received a doctoral degree as well as a Habilitation from the Christian Albrechts University of Kiel. Before coming to Aachen he held positions at the Kiel Institute of World Economics and at the University of Konstanz. He was a visiting research scholar at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology and at the National Bureau of Economic Research in Cambridge, USA. His research focuses on international trade and international political economy, and he has published in Canadian Journal of Economics, Public Choice, Journal of Urban Economics, Journal of Population Economics, Economics Letters, among others. Since 2004, Oliver Lorz has headed the International Economics unit at RWTH Aachen University.
